Mechanical camera repair is usually done in 3 phases also used to describe a complete service. CLA, short for Clean, Lubricate, Adjust.
The extent to which a camera is CLA'ed various widely depending on who you ask. For me it means an absolute disassembly down to the last bolt and cleaning until no old grease, oil or any other contaminant remain. Reassembly and lubrication according to factory specifications verified with factory spec tooling and using OEM or superior lubricants. Lastly everything should be adjusted and verified to spec. In order to comply with these criteria and confidently offer a warranty on all repairs a comprehensive toolkit is required. Mine includes the following:
A cleaning station blah blah blah
Shutter tester also for curtain velocity. Autocollimator. Hasselblad specialty tools etc.
